Parking: Provide a level, stable and well-lit unloading or loading area.
Demarcation: Use fence posts, cones or markers to demarcate the work area.
Communication: Agree clear arrangements between driver, forklift operator and warehouse staff.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety shoes, helmet, fluorescent vest, gloves and hearing protection as needed.
Stop the truck with the handbrake on and in the proper gear/parking position.
Use wheel blocks to prevent rolling away.
Only load and unload on a suitable loading pit or loading dock.
Weight distribution: distribute load evenly, taking into account axle loads and stability.
Fastening: Use straps, chains or dunnage to prevent shifting.
Maximum load: Never operate forklifts and pump trucks above their permitted weight.
Check that cargo has not shifted during transport before opening doors (danger of falling goods).
Open doors carefully and from the side.
Make sure there is enough space around the truck.
Only authorized and trained employees should operate them.
Always maintain eye contact or use clear gestures/signals with the driver.
Never get under pending charges.
Driver shall not perform the loading process unless explicitly permitted.
During loading/unloading: have driver stay outside hazardous area or in designated waiting area.
